Comprehensive first aid and CPR techniques for those who need a higher level of training to work and respond to emergencies in isolated or wilderness settings.  Training is also suitable for those who act as guides or supervisors for groups of people.  The course covers material in Standard First Aid & CPR, plus advanced strategies for providing extended care for more than 24 hours.  Part of the course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training.

Duration - 20 hours or 40 hours, flexible scheduling options available for groups

Completion requirements - 100% attendance, skills performance, and 75% passing grade on exam

Certification - 3 year certification in Basic (20-hour) or Advanced (40-hour) Wilderness & Remote First Aid, CPR level C and AED

**Important Note:  This course is recognized by Alberta OHS as a substitution for Standard First Aid with CPR AED level C for the purpose of workplace first aid.  Please visit https://work.alberta.ca/documents/approved-firstaid-training-courses.pdf - this course is listed under "Canadian Red Cross".  This means that if you take a Wilderness First Aid course, you do not have to also take standard first aid if you need a certificate for work.**

  • Head and spine injuries
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries

  • Environmental, heat, and cold related emergencies

  • Medical emergencies
  • Evacuation and transportation
  • Extended care

Optional Additional Module: Oxygen Administration. Designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to correctly identify when it is necessary to administer supplemental oxygen. Participants will learn how to properly and safely handle and assemble the equipment and how to correctly deliver supplemental oxygen through the appropriate delivery device.   Additional course time 2 hours, $60 additional fee.
